Incredible place. Best hotel we’ve ever stayed at with the most beautiful grounds! Since it’s in the mountains, the temperature drops in the evenings and there are mosquitoes. Be sure to bring a warm layer / jacket! The hotel kindly supplied us with flannel blankets to wear at the restaurant so we felt warm and comfortable. They also provide mosquito spray which was greatly appreciated. The onsens themselves are wonderful, but the co-ed (male & female shared) onsen can only be booked in advance for 1.5 hours at a time. The other onsens are separated by gender or are private in the rooms.
Amazing restaurant. Prices are high but the food is well worth it — very high quality Japanese food!
We love this place so much and were brought so much peace by our stay here. Very glad to see the bunnies, beautiful mandarin ducks, black swans (our first time seeing these in our lives - and they are just so beautiful).
Suggestions for improvement:
- Reduce mosquitoes in the rooms
- Provide water close to the onsen baths so that guests can hydrate and stay safe (the water station inside the changing room is too far)
- Verbally confirm orders at the restaurant. We had a couple times where we ordered something and did not receive the right items and were waiting for so long to receive our order, only to find out it was not coming. We were speaking English so of course there may be some communication hiccups but a simple confirmation would have alleviated this.
- Provide details about shuttle service from Chiang Mai on the website. I couldn’t find anything about this so me and my partner ended up renting a scooter to come to the location, but would have been more convenient to take a shuttle.
- Provide guests with ideas of activities to do & sights to see in the nearby areas. May encourage people to stay longer :)
- My final point of feedback is that the water did not smell like a typical hot spring which is rich with minerals. I am curious where the water comes from — is it an actual hot mineral spring, or are minerals added to cold spring water retroactively? It would be helpful to explain this to guests or put it in the hotel website description so that guests can manage their expectations 🙏
